Loyola Earns Series Sweep With 3-2 Victory At Wright State

April 20, 2008

Box Score

FAIRBORN, Ohio - Kat Krause doubled home Bridget Lally in the top of the seventh inning to cap a late Loyola University Chicago (15-17, 9-4 Horizon) rally as the Ramblers earned a 3-2 victory over Wright State (22-22, 9-6 Horizon) this afternoon at WSU Softball Field, to complete a three-game series sweep. The Ramblers have now won six of their last eight contests.

Wright State took an early lead in the see-saw affair as Kristen Bradshaw's bases-loaded walk brought home the first run of the game. Loyola drew even in the second inning, however, when Kaycee Tharp stroked a two-out single that scored Haley Ambrosch, who had reached on a single earlier in the inning.

A Jherica Williams two-out, run-scoring double in the bottom of the fifth inning put the hosts on top, 2-1, but the resilient Ramblers would not go quietly. Starting pitcher Amy Solava doubled with one out in the sixth inning and pinch runner Katie Duffy would later score on a Bradshaw error to tie the score at 2-2.

Krause's doubled with one out in the seventh put Loyola on top for the first time in the game and Solava was able to escape a jam in the bottom of the seventh. Wright State had the bases loaded with two outs, but the right-hander, who scattered six hits on the afternoon, got pinch hitter Allison Cox to fly out to center field to end the game.

Krause finished the day 3 for 4 and her game-winning double moved her into a tie with former teammate Raven Gengler for first place on Loyola's all-time RBI chart with 89. Solava walked five in the complete-game effort, and struck out two, en route to her fifth straight win.

Loyola travels south to for a rematch with city rival DePaul on Wednesday, April 23.
