2.12.08 - OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University Evangels dropped both games of a double header against the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes Tuesday, Feb 12. The Evangels lost 7-5 in the first game, and 13-3 in the second game. The Evangels defense struggled in the double-header, committing seven errors in the two games. The Evangel pitching staff gave up 14 earned runs in the two games, and 20 runs overall. In the first game, the two teams were shut-down in the first inning, but both teams answered big in the second inning with two runs a piece. The Coyotes scored two more runs in the top of the third inning, but the Evangels were shut-out and fell behind, 4-2, going into the middle innings. KWU continued its strong offensive production, scoring three runs in the top of the fourth inning, but MACU responded with a run a piece in the fourth, fifth, and sixth inning, cutting the lead, 7-5, going into the final inning. The Coyotes stopped the Evangels comeback effort in the bottom of the seventh inning and came away with the win. Senior Craig Southard pitched 3.2 innings, giving up four earned runs and striking out two Coyote batters. Freshman catcher Collin Greuter had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three RBI's. In the second game, the Coyotes scored a run in the top of the first inning, but MACU matched the KWU run in the bottom of the first inning with a run of its own. Both teams were held scoreless in the second inning, but the Coyotes jumped on the Evangels in the third inning, scoring four runs. The two teams were scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings, but KWU scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning. MACU scored a run in the bottom half of the sixth inning. However, the Coyotes put the game away in the seventh inning, scoring six runs. Evangel pitcher Tyler Grimes pitched 5.1 innings and gave seven runs on ten hits. Sophomore Rocky Polk went 1-for-2 with two RBI's. Senior Mike Wilkinson picked up the other RBI for MACU. The Evangels fall to 3-6 on the season, and stay 0-3 in Sooner Athletic Conference play. MACU will host Baker University Friday, Feb 15.
