2.14.08 - OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.- The Mid-America Christian University Junior Varsity Evangels split against the Oklahoma Baptist University Junior Varsity Bison Thursday, Feb 14. The JV Evangels lost 3-1 in the first game, and won 13-3 in the second game. The first game went into extra innings, but the JV Evangels fell short. Freshman Thomas Finn pitched five strong innings, giving up just one run. Freshman Nick Grisham came in relief and pitched two scoreless innings. Sophomore Corey Vanover came in the eighth inning and shut-out the JV Bison, but gave up two runs in the top of the ninth. The JV Evangels were held scoreless in the bottom of the ninth, as OBU held on for the win. "We played great defense, but failed to put runs on the board," MACU Head Coach Jason Blackwell said. MACU had six hits in nine innings, but failed to string them together. The JV Evangels had a strong offensive showing in the second game, scoring 13 runs on seven hits in just five innings. The JV Evangels took advantage of eight walks and getting hit at the plate three times. Freshman Nick Blizzard gave up three runs in four innings; Freshman Michael Pulliam came in and pitched a scoreless fifth inning. "I was really proud of the way are guys rebounded after losing such a close game earlier in the day," Coach Blackwell said. We won 13-3. The JV Evangels are 4-2 on the season. MACU JV will play Northern Oklahoma Junior College Saturday, Feb 16.
