2.26.08 - OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University Evangels split a double header against the Southwestern Assemblies of God University Lions Tuesday, Feb 26. The Lions defeated the Evangels, 11-7, in the first game, while MACU shut-out SAGU in the second game, 11-0.

The Evangels were 21-for-56 from the plate, and hit two homeruns on the day. MACU committed five errors in the first game, which lead to the loss. The Evangels gave up just four hits in the second game, and committed no errors. MACU gave up 13 hits in the first game, and eight earned runs.

In the first game, the Lions jumped on the Evangels early, scoring six runs in the top of the first inning. MACU struggled from the plate early in the game, failing to get runners home in the first three innings. SAGU added two more runs in the top of the third and fourth, giving the Lions a 10-0 advantage.

The MACU bats came alive in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring seven runs. The first batter for the Evangels reached on an error, and Freshman Collin Greuter drove him home with a two-run homerun, cutting the lead, 10-2. The Evangels scored five more runs before the Lions recorded an out. By the end of the inning the Evangels cut the Lions lead, 10-7. The Lions scored one more run in the top of the sixth, which gave SAGU an 11-7 lead and held on for the win.

Senior Jon Reed went 1-for-4 with two RBI's, while Greuter finished with two RBI's. A.J. Boswell went 1-for-4 with two RBI's and a run.

In the second game, Senior Pitcher Craig Southard shut-out the Lions. The Evangels jumped on SAGU in the bottom of the first inning, scoring five runs on two hits, with one of them being a two-run homerun by Freshman Alex Webb. MACU scored a run in the bottom of the second inning to give them a 6-0 lead.

Southard continued to mow down the SAGU batters, while the Evangels continued to score runs. MACU scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, giving the Evangels an 11-0 lead.

Southard pitched six shut-out innings, giving up four hits and striking out four SAGU batters. Senior Matt Howard went 2-for-3 with four RBI's and three runs. Boswell had three RBI's on just one hit.

The Evangels are 4-10 on the season, and remain 0-6 in the conference.

MACU returns to Sooner Athletic Conference play Thursday, Feb 28 against Southern Nazarene University at home. First game of the double header is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
