3.1.08 - BETHANY, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University Evangels lost in Sooner Athletic Conference play against the Southern Nazarene University Crimson Storm Saturday, March 1. The Crimson Storm beat the Evangels in a slugfest, 22-12. MACU batted 12-for-38 on the day, scoring twelve runs. The Evangels committed no errors in the game, but gave up 22 earned runs. The Evangels went through four different pitchers that gave up seven walks. The Evangels started the game scoring two runs, but the Crimson Storm responded in the bottom of the first, tying the game, 2-2. MACU scored a run in the top of the second, while SNU scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning, taking a 6-3 lead. Junior Jake Scott hit a solo homerun in the top of the third, cutting the 6-4. However, the Crimson Storm stretched their lead, 9-4, with three runs in the bottom of the third. MACU had a big fourth inning, starting with a two-run homerun by Senior Jon Reed. Freshman Alex Webb contributed to the inning with a two-run single, while Junior Austin had an RBI single to cap off the inning. The Evangel tied the game, 9-9. SNU responded in its half of the inning with a run of its own and regaining its lead, 10-9. Both teams were shut-out in the fifth inning, but the Evangels took an 11-10 lead in the sixth inning after scoring two runs in the top half of the inning. SNU answered right back with two runs and regained its lead, 12-11. The Evangels tied it up in the top of the seventh inning, but the Crimson Storm scored six unanswered runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and four more unanswered runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to grab the win, 22-12. Reed finished the game going 1-for-6 with three RBI's, while Scott went 2-for-3 with two RBI's. Freshman Kyle Francis came in relief and pitched 4.2 innings, giving up six runs and striking out six SNU batters. Senior Craig Southard picked up the loss for the Evangels. The Evangels fall to 4-13 on the season, and 0-9 in SAC play. MACU play Central Baptist College at home Monday, March 3.
