3.15.08 - OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University Evangels dropped both games of a double header against the St. Gregory's University Cavaliers in Sooner Athletic Conference action, Saturday, March 15. The Cavaliers held off the Evangels, 9-6, in the first game and defeated MACU, 11-1, in the second game. The Evangels hit 12-for-55 on the day, while SGU batted 23-for-63. MACU picked up seven runs in the two games, but the Cavaliers had twenty earned runs. MACU committed five errors and SGU had just one error. In the first game, Senior Mike Wilkinson hit a lead-off homerun for the second straight game, giving the Evangels a 1-0 advantage. The Cavaliers tied up the game in the top of the third inning, and took the lead in the top of the fourth inning, 6-1, after scoring five runs. SGU padded its lead in the sixth inning, 7-1, but the Evangels rallied in the bottom half of the inning. MACU scored three runs with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning, cutting the Cavalier lead, 7-4. SGU answered in the seventh inning with two runs. The Evangels rallied with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Cavaliers held off the Evangels for the win. Wilkinson finished the game 1-for-4 with a RBI, while Freshman Brad Workman and Sophomore T.J. Munch added the other MACU RBI's. Freshman Alex Webb went 2-for-2 with a run. In the second game, the Cavaliers struck first in the top of the second inning with two runs, and again in the top of the third inning with a run, taking a 3-0 lead. MACU answered in the bottom of the third inning with a run, cutting the lead, 3-1. SGU scored two more runs in the top of the fourth inning and one more in the top of the sixth inning, while the Cavalier defense shut-out MACU. The Cavaliers scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning, picking up the 11-1 win. Wilkinson went 2-for-4 in the game. Senior Jon Reed picked up the lone MACU RBI off of a sacrifice fly, Workman scored off the Reed sacrifice. The Evangels fall to 5-18 on the season, and 1-14 in SAC play. MACU will travel and play Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas, Monday, March 17.
