MACU Drops Two Games Against OBU in SAC Action

3.22.08 - SHAWNEE, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University Evangels dropped both games of the double header in Sooner Athletic Conference action, against the Oklahoma Baptist University Bison, Saturday, March 22. The Bison defeated the Evangels, 5-3, in the first game, and beat them, 5-4, in the second game.

The Evangels went 20-for-58 on the day, out hitting the Bison by nine hits. The MACU pitchers gave up six earned runs on the day, but the Evangels committed three costly errors on the day that led to four unearned runs.

In the first game, the Evangels got on the board early when Junior Rocky Polk hit an RBI single, giving MACU a 1-0 advantage. The Bison answered in the bottom of the second inning, tying the game, and went ahead, 2-1, in the bottom of the third inning.

The Evangels rallied in the top of the fifth inning, scoring two runs, taking a 3-2 lead. OBU took the lead, 5-3, in the bottom half of the inning, scoring three runs. MACU had the bases loaded in the top of the seventh inning, but failed to get any runners across the plate, and OBU held on for the win.

Evangel pitcher, Kyle Francis, pitched six solid innings, giving up four earned runs and striking out five OBU batters. Polk finished 2-for-4 with a run and a RBI. Freshman Collin Greuter went 1-for-4 with two RBI's, while Senior Jon Reed went 3-for-3 and had a run scored.

In the second game, MACU fell behind, 3-0, in the first inning. The Evangels managed a run in the top of the second inning, inching closer to the OBU lead, 3-1. The Bison regained their three run lead in the third inning, scoring a run.

The Evangels rallied in the top of the fourth inning when Junior Austin Boswell hit a two-run double, cutting the lead, 4-3. OBU answered in the bottom of the fourth inning with a run, taking a 5-3 advantage. MACU trimmed the lead, 5-4, in the top of the sixth inning, but OBU managed to hold on for the win.

Boswell finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBI's. Junior Douglas Kane pitched six innings, giving up two earned runs. Freshman Alex Webb picked up the other MACU RBI.

The Evangels drop to 5-21 on the season, and 1-17 in SAC play.

MACU will battle Central Christian College at home Tuesday, March 25. First game of the double header will start at 1:00 p.m.
