MACU Sweeps the Tigers

3.25.08 - OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University Evangels swept the Central Christian College Tigers in a double header, Tuesday, March 25. The Evangels cruised to a 10-0 win in the first game, and rallied for a 4-3 win in the second game.

MACU went 20-for-52 on the day, including six doubles. The Evangel pitching staff held the Tigers too just a .229 batting average in the two games. MACU committed two errors on the day, while CCC committed three errors.

In the first game, both teams failed to get any runners home in the first two innings. Junior Rocky Polk helped the Evangels get on the board in the bottom of the third inning with a two-run double. Junior Jake Scott knocked in Polk, giving MACU a 3-0 lead. The Evangels tacked two more runs in the fourth inning, stretching their lead, 5-0.

Junior Cody Price continued to shut-out the Tigers from the plate, while MACU kept padding its lead. The Evangels scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning off of CCC mistakes, and put the game away in the bottom of the sixth run, scoring three runs, cruising to the 10-0 win.

Price pitched five shut-out innings, giving up just four hits. Polk finished 1-for-3 with a run and two RBI's. Freshman Tyler Brooksher picked up three RBI's with a base clearing double.

In the second game, the Tigers struck first, scoring a run in the top of the first inning. CCC stretched its lead, 2-0, in the fourth inning, but MACU rallied in the bottom of the fifth inning. Senior Jon Reed hit a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning, tying the game, 2-2. Polk gave the Evangels the lead, 3-2, with a double, scoring Reed.

The Tigers answered in the top of the sixth inning with a run, tying the game at 3-3. MACU was held scoreless in the bottom half of the sixth inning, and held CCC to no runs in the top of the seventh. The Evangels managed to get runners on base in the bottom of the seventh, and Senior Matthew Howard boosted MACU past CCC with a sacrifice fly, picking up the game winning RBI.

Senior Craig Southard pitched five innings, giving up three runs on five hits. Reed finished the game 1-for-4 with two RBI's. Freshman Collin Greuter went 2-for-4, while Sophomore T.J. Munch went 1-for-3 with a run scored.

The Evangels improve to 7-21 on the season, and remain 1-17 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.

MACU will play the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma on the road Friday, March 28 in a nine inning game. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
