MACU Drops Both Games of Double Header

3.29.08 - OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University Evangels dropped both games of a double header against the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Drovers in Sooner Athletic Conference action, Saturday, March 29. The Evangels lost the first game, 11-2, and fell in the second game, 12-2.

The Evangels hit 13-for-51 in the two games, while scoring four runs on the day. MACU committed five errors on the day, while the Drovers had a flawless day in the field. USAO went 34-for-71 on the day, and collected 23 runs.

In the first game, the Drovers jumped on the Evangels early, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. USAO shut-out the Evangels through the first three innings of the game, while the Drovers stretched their lead to 9-0 after the top of the fourth inning. MACU had the bases loaded with no outs, and managed two runs, cutting the USAO lead, 9-2.

Both teams were held scoreless in the fifth and sixth innings, but the Drovers scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning, and held an 11-2 lead going into the bottom of the ninth inning. The Evangels failed to score in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Senior Jon Reed went 2-for-4 in the game, scoring a run. Senior Matthew Howard went 1-for2 with a RBI, while Freshman Collin Greuter contributed the other MACU RBI.

In the second game, both teams were scoreless through the first two innings of the game. The Drovers struck first, scoring two runs in the top of the third inning, taking a 2-0 lead. The two team's defense stepped up in the third, fourth, and fifth innings.

The Drovers padded their lead in the top of the sixth inning, 6-0, after scoring four runs. The Evangels cut the lead in the bottom half of the sixth inning, 6-1. USAO scored six more runs in the top of the seventh inning, while holding MACU to just one run.

Reed finished the game 2-for-3 with a RBI. Junior Jake Scott went 1-for-3 with a RBI, while Senior Mike Wilkinson went 2-for-3.

The Evangels fall to 7-24 on the season, and 1-20 in SAC play.

MACU will play Central Baptist College at home, Monday, March 31. First game of the double header will start at 1:00 p.m.
