April 4, 2008 4.4.08 - ALVA, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University Evangels fell in both games of a double header to the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Rangers in Sooner Athletic Conference action, Friday, April 5. The Evangels lost the first game, 7-3, and dropped the second game, 9-8. The Evangels batted 17-for-58 in the two games, including five extra base hits. The Rangers went 21-for-53 on the day. MACU committed six errors on the day, which led to five unearned runs. The Evangels left 17 runners on base in the two games. In the first game, the Rangers jumped on the Evangels early, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning. MACU rallied in the top of the second inning with three runs, cutting the NWOSU, 5-3. Senior Mike Wilkinson finished the rally when he singled in two Evangel runners. The Evangels shut-out the Rangers in the second and third inning. NWOSU padded its lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, 7-3, scoring two runs. The two defenses picked up its play in the remaining innings. The Evangels fought back in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Rangers held on for the win. Wilkinson finished the game 1-for-3 with two RBI's. Sophomore T.J. Munch went 3-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI. Freshman Brad Workman went 1-for-1 with a run scored. The second game started like the first game, with the Rangers jumping on the Evangels early. NWOSU scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, taking the lead, 3-0. MACU answered in the top of the second inning, when Wilkinson singled in a runner, cutting the lead, 3-1. The Evangels found themselves down, 5-1, after the fifth inning. The Evangels rallied, scoring two runs in the top of the sixth inning, trimming the lead, 5-4. MACU took the lead in the top of the seventh inning, 8-4, after scoring four runs. However, the Rangers put together their own rally, scoring five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, stealing the win from the Evangels. Wilkinson went 2-for-4 with a RBI in the game. Senior Jon Reed had a good game, going 3-for-5 with three RBI's. Freshman Alex Webb belted a two-run homerun in the sixth inning and finished the game 1-for-3. Junior Jake Scott went 2-for-3 with two RBI's. The Evangels drop to 7-24 on the year, and 1-22 in SAC play. MACU will complete its series with NWOSU Saturday, April 5 at home in a nine inning game.
