4.5.08 - OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University Evangels rally came up short against the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Rangers in Sooner Athletic Conference play, Saturday, April 5. The Evangels fell to the Rangers, 5-3. MACU went 11-for-39 on the day, which included a double and a triple. NWOSU batted 10-for-34 in the game. The Evangels committed on error on the day, which led to three unearned runs. MACU left 12 runners on base in the game. The Evangel defense shut-down the Rangers in the top of the first inning, and grabbed the lead, 1-0, in the bottom of the first inning when Freshman Alex Webb tripled in Senior Jon Reed. The game was tied at 1-0 until the fifth inning, despite the Evangels threatening several times to score in the three inning stretch. NWOSU grabbed the lead, 3-1, in the top of the fifth inning, scoring three runs. MACU cut the lead, 3-2, in the bottom half of the fifth inning, when Webb picked up his second RBI of the game, singling in Sophomore T.J. Munch. The Evangels tied the game, 3-3, in the bottom of the sixth inning; Freshman Brad Workman drove in Junior Austin Boswell to tie the game. The Rangers regained the lead, 5-3, in the top of the seventh inning, scoring two runs. MACU had two runners on in the bottom of the seventh inning, but failed to score. Senior Chad Lantz came in relief in the seventh inning and shut-down the Rangers, giving MACU the chance to spoil the Rangers lead in the bottom of the ninth inning. Munch started the inning getting hit by a pitch, followed by a single by Reed that forced Munch at third base. The Evangels managed the bases loaded, but failed to get any runners across the plate, and NWOSU held on for the win. Lantz pitched 2.1 shut-out inning in relief, giving up just one hit. Webb finished the game 2-for-5 and had two RBI's, while Reed went 3-for-5 with a run scored. Senior Matthew Howard finished the game 2-for-3. The Evangels drop to 7-25 on the season, and 1-23 in SAC competition. MACU will battle Central Baptist University on the road, Monday, April 5.
