4.7.08 - CONWAY, Ark. - The Mid-America Christian University Evangels swept the Central Baptist College Mustangs Monday, April 7. The Evangels shut-out the Mustangs in the first game, 7-0, and won in extra innings in the second inning, 6-4.

In the first game, Junior Jake Scott put the Evangels on the board early, hitting a two-run homerun in the top of the first inning. The homerun would be the only runs in the next four innings, as MACU took a 2-0 lead going into the top of the sixth inning.

MACU opened the game up in the top of the sixth scoring three runs, stretching its lead, 5-0. Senior Matthew Howard and Junior Austin Boswell each had RBI doubles in the inning. The Evangels padded their lead, 7-0, in the top of the seventh inning, cruising to the win.

Junior Cody Price pitched seven shut-out innings and struck-out three CBC batters. Scott finished the game 1-for-1 with three RBI's and a run scored. Boswell had two RBI's, while Howard and Freshman Collin Greuter contributed the other MACU RBI's.

In the second game, Freshman Alex Webb hit a solo homerun, giving the Evangels a 1-0 lead. In the second inning, Sophomore T.J. Munch hit a RBI double, followed by a RBI sacrifice fly by Senior Mike Wilkinson, stretching the lead, 3-0. CBC scored a run in the bottom of the second inning, cutting the lead, 3-1.

The Evangels took a 4-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning, when Greuter hit a solo homerun, but the Mustangs answered. CBC tied the game, 4-4, in the bottom of the sixth, while both teams held each team scoreless in the seventh inning, forcing extra innings. Webb and Greuter came big in the eighth inning, both smashing solo homeruns. MACU took a 6-4 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning and held off the Mustangs for the win.

Webb and Greuter finished 2-for-4 with two homeruns and two RBI's, while Munch and Wilkinson had the other MACU RBI's. Junior Tyler Grimes picked up the win in relief, pitching 2.1 innings, giving up just two hits.

The Evangels improve to 9-25 on the season, and remain 1-23 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.

MACU will battle Oklahoma Christian University on the road in a nine inning game, Thursday, April 10. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
