4.12.08 - OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University Evangels split a double header against the Oklahoma Christian University Eagles in Sooner Athletic Conference action, Saturday, April 12. The Evangels fell in the first game, 4-1, and shut-out the Eagles in the second game, 3-0. MACU went 17-for-53 in the two games, while holding the OC offense to just .231 hitting on the day. The Evangels committed four errors on the day, resulting in two unearned runs. MACU left eight runners on base in the two games. In the first game, the Eagles pounced on the Evangels early, taking a 3-0 lead in the first two innings of the game. MACU responded in the bottom of the third inning, when Senior Jon Reed scored on an OC error, cutting the lead, 3-1. Both teams were held scoreless in the fourth inning, but the Eagles padded their lead, 4-1, in the top of the fifth inning, scoring a run. The Evangels threatened with runners in scoring position in the sixth and seventh inning, but OC held on for the win. Junior Douglas Kane pitched seven innings, giving up two earned runs and struck out eight Eagle batters. Reed finished the game 1-for-2 with a run scored. Freshman Alex Webb had the lone RBI for MACU. In the second game, the Evangels took the first lead of the game, scoring two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Webb smashed a solo homerun to lead off the inning, while Sophomore T.J. Munch drove in Senior Matthew Howard. Sophomore Ryan McCoin continued to shut-out the Eagles, and MACU picked up an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth inning, when Senior Mike Wilkinson drove in Freshman Brad Workman. McCoin kept on mowing down OC batters, as the Evangels pulled off the win. McCoin pitched seven shut-out innings, allowing five hits and striking out three OC hitters. Webb went 1-for-3 with a homerun, while Wilkinson hit 2-for-4 with a RBI. Howard and Munch went 2-for-3 in the game. The Evangels are 10-26 on the season, and 2-24 in SAC play. MACU will finish its series with OC on the road in a nine inning game, Monday, April 14.
