April 26, 2008 4.26.08 - MOORE, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University Evangels split the last double header of the regular season against the Hillsdale Freewill Baptist College Saints, Saturday, April 26. The Saints defeated the Evangels in the first game, 8-3, but MACU cruised past HFWBC in the second game, 23-4. In the first game, the Saints jumped on the Evangels early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. MACU responded in the top of the second inning, scoring two runs and tying the game, 2-2. Junior Jake Scott hit a solo homerun, while Freshman Collin Greuter drove in Senior Matthew Howard on a sacrifice fly. Neither team managed to score in the third inning, but HFWBC scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, taking a 7-2 advantage. The Evangels trimmed the lead, 7-3, in the top of the fifth, when Freshman Brad Workman knocked in Sophomore T.J. Munch. The Saints got back that run, by scoring in the bottom of the sixth. The lead was too big for the Evangels to overcome, and lost, 8-3. Scott finished the game 1-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored. Workman went 1-for-2 with a RBI, while Howard went 1-for-3 with a run scored. In the second game, MACU dominated HFWBC from the beginning, scoring six runs in the top of the first inning, which was capped off by a two-run homerun by Junior Austin Boswell. The Saints scored a run in the bottom of the second inning, but the Evangel offense answered with a four run third inning. Munch, Boswell, and Freshman Alex Webb picked up the MACU RBI's. MACU pounded HFWBC in the fourth inning, scoring 10 runs, and taking a 20-1 lead on the Saints. Munch hit a two-run triple, while Workman contributed a two-run double. Junior Rocky Polk hit a two-run single. Scott and Webb both hit RBI doubles. The Evangels added two more runs in the top of the fifth inning, and cruised to the win. Munch went 3-for-3 with a career high seven RBI's, and was a homerun away from the cycle. Boswell finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBI's, while Scott scored four times. Senior Jon Reed and Polk both had two RBI's. The Evangels finish up the regular season 13-33. MACU will play in the National Christian College Athletic Association Division I Central Region Tournament, May 8-10. Schedule and times have not be determined.
