MACU Ends Season in NCCAA Regional Tournament

5.8.08 - BARTLESVILLE, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University Evangels ended their season in the National Christian College Athletic Association Division I Central Region Tournament Thursday, May 8.

The Evangels lost two games in a double elimination bracket. MACU fell to the Colorado Christian College Cougars in the first game, 11-1, and lost to the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles in the second game, 9-2.

In the first game, both pitchers shut-out their opposition in the first inning, but CCC struck first in the bottom of the second inning with four runs and took a 4-0 advantage. The Cougars stretched their lead, 8-0, in the bottom of the third inning, while continuing to hold the MACU hitters in check.

The Cougars continued to score runs, while the Evangels continued to struggle from the plate. CCC took a 10-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring two runs. MACU posted a run in the top of the fifth inning, when Junior Austin Boswell drove in Senior Matthew Howard, but the rally stopped and CCC picked up the win.

Howard finished the game 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored. Boswell went 1-for-1 with a RBI.

In the second game, OWU was on the board early, scoring a run in the top of the first inning. The Eagles stretched their lead, 5-0, in the top of the third inning, scoring four runs.

OWU scored two more runs in the top of the fourth inning, but the Evangels answered with two runs of their own, cutting the lead, 7-2. Junior Jake Scott hit a RBI single, while Boswell picked up his second RBI single on the day. OWU scored two more runs in the top of the seventh inning, which proved to be too much for the Evangels to overcome.

Senior Mike Wilkinson went 1-for-3 on the day, including a double and a run scored. Scott finished the game 1-for-3 with a RBI and run scored, while Boswell picked up the other MACU RBI.

The Evangels finish their season 13-35.
