Feb. 4, 2008 2.4.08 - OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University Evangels lost in Sooner Athletic Conference play against the Oklahoma City University Stars Monday, Feb 7. The Evangels fell to the Stars, 89-67. "The game was very physical," MACU Head Coach Willie Holley said. "Most teams in the SAC are physical, and in order to win in this conference you have to overcome physical play." The Stars out rebounded the Evangels 57-49, which included 27 OCU offensive rebounds. OCU scored 27 second chance points, compared to just ten MACU second chance points. The Stars made more free-throws than the Evangels attempted in a physical game. OCU started the game on a 7-0 run, but the Evangels went on a 5-0 run and cut the lead, 7-5, with fourteen minutes left in the first half. The Evangels grabbed their first lead of the game, 15-14, at the 9:23 mark. OCU and MACU had six lead changes in three minutes, but the Stars closed the first half on a 22-9 run. MACU went into the locker room at halftime down, 42-29. The Evangels struggled from the field in the second half, shooting just 33% from the field and 23% from the three-point line. The Stars never let the Evangels cut the lead to single digits, putting away the Evangels mid-way through the second half. Senior Stevan Thomas had 16 points and seven rebounds, while Senior Joe Brown chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds. The Evangels fall to 8-13 on the season, and 4-9 in conference play. MACU will travel to Chickasha, Okla. Thursday, Feb 7, and play the University of Science and Arts-Oklahoma.
