Feb. 7, 2008 2.7.08 - CHICKASHA, Okla.- The Mid-America Christian University Evangels lost on the road in Sooner Athletic Conference play against the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Drovers Thursday, Feb 7. The Drovers defeated the Evangels 76-59. "The road is a tough place to play in this conference," MACU Head Coach Willie Holley said. "The first half really put us in a hole we could not get out of." The Drivers took advantage of a sluggish MACU first half. The Evangels shot just 29% in the first half. The Evangels forced only eight USAO turnovers, while USAO forced 12 MACU turnovers. The Drovers shot 49% from the field, and 44% from the three-point line. The Evangels had just six points off turnovers, while USAO scored 18 points off of turnovers. The Evangels jumped on the Drovers early in the first half, scoring the first five points of the first half. USAO did not take its first lead of the game until the 8:55 mark, going on a 15-0 run and taking a double digit lead. The Drovers closed the first half on a 23-8 run and went into the locker room at halftime ahead of the Evangels, 38-24. USAO stretched its lead to 20 points early in the second half, but the Evangels responded and cut the lead, 60-48, with less than ten minutes remaining in the game. However, the Evangels would get no closer, as the Drovers stretched their lead back to 20 points and took control of the game. Senior Donald Thorne scored a team high 13 points and grabbed four rebounds. Senior Joe Brown came off the bench and contributed 12 points. The Evangels drop to 8-14 on the season, and 4-10 in the conference. MACU will battle Southern Nazarene University on the road Saturday, Feb 9.
