2.16.08 - OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University Evangels lost against the Oklahoma Baptist University Bison in Sooner Athletic Conference play Saturday, Feb 16. The Bison defeated the Evangels 92-73. "We played well in the first half," MACU Head Coach Willie Holley said. "We struggled from the field in the second half and that hurt us." The Evangels struggled from the field in the second half, shooting just 29% from the field. The Bison scored 42 points off of three-pointers, and shot 54% from the three-point stripe. MACU committed 15 turnovers, while forcing just nine turnovers. The first half was back and forth, consisting of six lead changes and four ties. The Bison scored on the opening possession, but the Evangels scored seven of the next nine points and took a 7-4 lead at the 15:42 mark. MACU maintained its lead through the beginning of the first half, holding its largest lead at 17-12 with eleven minutes left. The Bison took the lead at the 7:47 mark for good at 24-23. OBU went into the locker room at halftime with a 47-41 lead. The Bison opened the second half on a 16-3 lead and stretched their too 63-44. The Evangels responded going on an 18-5 run and trimmed the OBU lead, 68-62, with 11:20 remaining in the game. The Bison scored on the ensuing possession, which sparked a 16-5 run and put the game away for OBU. Senior Joe Brown scored a team high 17 points. Junior Tyron Goldsmith came off the bench and scored 15 points, while Junior Derek Winston came off the bench and contributed 13 points. The Evangels are 8-18 on the season, and 4-14 in conference play. MACU will battle Lubbock Christian University on the road Thursday, Feb 21.
