Feb. 21, 2008 2.21.08 - LUBBOCK, Texas - The Mid-America Christian University Evangels first half struggles lead to a loss against the Lubbock Christian University Chaparrals in Sooner Athletic Conference play Thursday, Feb 21. The Evangels fell to the Chaps 75-63. "Lubbock is a tough place to play," MACU Head Coach Willie Holley said. "We dug ourselves into too deep of a hole in the first half and that was the difference." MACU shot just 38% from the field in the first half, while LCU shot 55% from the field in the first half. The Evangels committed 18 turnovers on the night, while forcing just nine LCU turnovers. The Chaps scored fifteen points off of MACU turnovers, while the Evangels scored just eight points off of LCU turnovers. The Evangels raced to a 7-1 run to start the first half, but the Chaps answered with a 10-2 run and took an 11-9 lead with 13:32 remaining in the first half. LCU began to stretch its lead against the Evangels, and held at least a ten point lead throughout the remaining of the first half. The Evangels went into the locker room down at halftime, 41-25. MACU struggled to cut the lead below double digits in the second half. The Evangels cut the lead to ten points several times in the second half, but the Chaps made big plays to keep a steady lead and held on for the win. Freshman Xavier Bell scored a team high 12 points off the bench, and went 4-for-5 from the three-point line. Junior Tyron Goldsmith had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Stevan Thomas contributed 10 points. The Evangels are 8-19 on the season, and 3-16 in SAC play. MACU will end its road trip in Texas Saturday, Feb 23, against Wayland Baptist University.
