Feb. 28, 2008 2.28.08 - EDMOND, Okla.- The Mid-America Christian University Evangels fell to the Oklahoma Christian University Eagles in Sooner Athletic Conference action Thursday, Feb 28. The Eagles defeated the Evangels, 94-64. "OC shot the ball very well tonight," MACU Head Coach Willie Holley said. "We struggled defensively tonight and we gave up too many turnovers." The Evangels shot 51% from the field, while the Eagles shot 43% from the three-point line, outscoring the Evangels 39-21 from points beyond the arc. OC managed 33 points off of 21 MACU turnovers, while the Evangels scored four points from seven OC turnovers. The Evangels started the game on an 11-6 run, but the Eagles answered with an 8-0 run, and took a 14-11 lead with twelve minutes remaining in the first half. The Evangels tied the game on the ensuing possession, but OC quickly regained the lead back. OC closed the first half on an 18-4 run and went into the locker room with a 41-24 halftime lead over the Evangels. MACU started the second half on a 7-1 run and cut the lead, 42-31, with nineteen minutes remaining in the game. However, the Eagles went on an 8-0 run, and stretched their lead to nineteen points. OC continued to stretch its lead, and put the Evangels away mid-way through the second half. The Eagles stretched their lead to over thirty points at the ten minute mark and put the Evangels away for the win. Junior Tyron Goldsmith scored a team high 16 points. The Evangels drop to 8-21 on the season, and 4-17 in SAC play. MACU will play Northwestern Oklahoma State University in its last home game Saturday, March 1. Seniors Tracy Wilkins, Stevan Thomas, Donald Thorne, Joe Brown, and Preston Cranford will be honored on Saturday.
