3.24.08 - Pensacola, Florida - The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels returned from Florida this week, after playing in the Spring Fling Tournament hosted by the University of West Florida. The Lady Evangels went 1-5 for the week.

On the fist day, MACU played Huntington University Foresters, winning one and losing one. The Lady Evangels lost 2-1 in eight innings in the first game, and shut-out the Foresters in the second game, 6-0.

In the first game, Freshman Kat Tims pitched seven innings, allowing just one run, while Freshman Kalynne Tweedie pitched a one hit shut-out in the second game. Senior Heidi Steckbauer, Junior Kasey Gardner, Junior Kimberly Eastin, Freshman Alesha Calvery, Freshman Megan Starks, and Freshman Kortney Knost had one RBI a piece on the day.

On the second day, the Lady Evangels battled the William Jewell College Cardinals, falling in both games. MACU fell 8-4 in the first game, and lost 4-2 in the second game.

In the second game, Tweedie had another solid outing, giving up four runs and striking out six Cardinal batters. Gardner had a two-run double in the first game, while Steckbuaer, Tims, Senior Holly Steckbauer, and Freshman Jenna Harris picked up the other MACU RBI's on the day.

On the third day, the Lady Evangels faced off against the Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions. The Lady Lions defeated MACU, 2-1, in the first game of the double header, and FHU completed the sweep, winning the second game, 12-2.

In the first game, Tweedie pitched seven solid innings, giving up two runs on three hits. Sophomore Candice Meza had the lone MACU RBI. In the second game, Tweedie pitched in relief, striking out three Lady Lion batters and picked up her first RBI of the year. Calvery had the other RBI for the Lady Evangels in the second game.

The Lady Evangels are 5-17 on the season, and remain 0-8 in the conference.

MACU battle Oklahoma City University on the road in Sooner Athletic Conference play Tuesday, March 25. First game of the double header will begin at 5:00 p.m.
