ORONO, Maine-- The University of Maine cheering squad recently competed in the NCA National Collegiate Cheering and Dance Championship in Daytona Beach, Fla. April 8-12. The competition is the largest cheerleading championship in the United States.

Maine stood 14th after the preliminary competition, three one-hundredths of a point out of the top 10. That standing placed Maine into the Challenge Cup competition where the Black Bear cheerleaders finished 6th.

Maine competed at the Small Coed I level. This group is made up of Division I teams with 4 or less males.
