Men's Basketball Drops Tough Decision
Feb. 20, 2008 BOSTON, Massachusetts-- The men's basketball team dropped a tough decision to Boston University by the score of 73-54. With the loss, the Black Bears fell to 7-19 and 3-10 in America East. Boston University improved to 11-15 and 8-6 in league play. Maine was led by Brian Andre (Bingham, Maine) who had 12 points and 10 rebounds while the Terriers were led by John Holland (Bronx, N.Y.) who had 23 points. The Black Bears got off to a tough start as the Terriers took an 11-to-nothing lead. Maine kept battling, but the Terriers shot the ball very well from three-point range and took a 24-to-10 lead with 10 minutes to go in the first half. The Terriers continued to shoot well, going 16-for-31 from the field in the half. The Terriers also made five-of-12 shots from three-point range for the half. The Black Bears continued to play hard, but could cut the Terrier lead down no further, and went into halftime down by the score of 42-to-18. Maine was slightly out-rebounded by a 16-to-14 margin, but had 15 turnovers. The Black Bears went four-of-18 from the floor in the first 20 minutes. Maine was led in the first half by Andre (Bingham, ME.) who had six points, four rebounds and added a block. Boston University was led by Holland who had 15 points in the first stanza. Maine came out hard in the second half and cut into the lead in the first part of the second half, while continuing to hang with the much more experienced Terriers, For the third straight game, five Black Bear freshmen played significant minutes, and gained valuable experience The Black Bears return to action on Saturday, Feb. 23 when they return to the Alfond Arena to battle Stony Brook at 12 p.m. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 581-BEAR or toll-free at (800) 756-TEAM.
