Football Announces Chris Gennaro to Walk-On as Kicker

ORONO, Maine - University of Maine head football coach Jack Cosgrove announced on Friday that Chris Gennaro (Saco, Maine) will attend school beginning in the fall of 2008, and join the program as a walk-on kicker. Gennaro earned Maine First-Team All-State honors at the Class A level last season as a member of the Thornton Academy football squad. He helped lead the team to a 7-1 record and a trip to the state playoffs where they advanced to the second round. "We are very excited to add Chris to our kicking competition this preseason," Cosgrove said. "With the departure of Bobby Donnelly, we have an opening at that position. There will be an open kicking competition in preseason camp and one that Chris will have the opportunity to be a part of." The Black Bear football team is getting geared up to open spring practice next week. The team will officially begin the spring season with their initial practice next Thursday from 5:45-8:30 a.m., in Alfond Stadium. The Black Bears will take part in 15 spring practices with the highlight coming on April 26 when they host the Fourth Annual Jeff Cole Memorial Spring Scrimmage at 10 a.m., in Alfond Stadium.
