Brandon McLaughlin Chosen to Attend NCAA Student-Athlete Development Conference

April 7, 2008

ORONO, Maine - University of Maine sophomore defensive back Brandon McLaughlin has been chosen by the NCAA to attend its National Student-Athlete Development Conference in Orlando, Fla., from May 27-29. McLaughlin was one of 233 student-athletes across the country chosen to attend the conference, which will be held at the Walt Disney World Resort.

The NCAA National Student-Athlete Development Conference provides NCAA student-athletes with a forum to openly discuss issues that may affect them on their campuses and in their communities, while also providing them with the opportunity to enhance their leadership, communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills. The conference also promotes better communication among student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty and communities.

McLaughlin is entering his junior year on the Black Bear football squad in 2008. He started all 11 games at strong safety last season -- his first full season as a starter -- and registered 64 tackles, which ranked 42nd in the CAA.

The Black Bear football team is gearing up for its 2008 spring practice schedule, which begins on Thursday with a morning session from 5:45-8:30 at Alfond Stadium. The team will take part in 15 spring practices with the highlight being the Fourth Annual Jeff Cole Memorial Spring Scrimmage on Saturday, April 26, at 10 a.m., in Alfond Stadium.
