Men's Ice Hockey Falls to Vermont 2-0
Feb. 29, 2008 BURLINGTON, Vt.-- The University of Maine men's ice hockey team fell to Vermont 2-0 on Friday night at the Gutterson Fieldhouse in Burlington, Vt. Maine falls to 10-18-3 on the season and 6-15-3 in Hockey East conference play, while the Catamounts improve to 13-11-7 overall and 12-8-5 in conference play. The two teams skated though a scoreless first period. Vermont opened the scoring 13:41 into the second period with a power play goal. Wahsontiio Stacey fed Brayden Irwin who skated down the left side of the ice and had his shot beat Maine goalie Ben Bishop (Des Peres, Mo.). For Irwin, it was his fifth goal of the season. The Catamounts added to their lead at 15:03 when Corey Carlson and Dean Strong teamed up to find Colin Vock who was able to find the back of the net. The goal by Vock was also a power play goal. The Catamounts took the 2-0 lead into the second intermission. Neither team was able to find the back of the net the remainder of the game. Maine's Ben Bishop stopped 29 shots in goal for the Black Bears. He falls to 10-18-3 on the season. Joe Fallon made 23 saves in gaol for Vermont. The Black Bears return to action on Saturday, March 1 when they conclude their Hockey East series with the Catamounts with a 7:30 p.m. puck drop at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
