Men's Ice Hockey Blanks Vermont 3-0

March 1, 2008

BURLINGTON, Vt.-- The University of Maine men's ice hockey team picked up a much-needed pair of Hockey East points on Saturday night with a 3-0 shutout of the Vermont Catamounts. The Black Bears got goals from Wes Clark (Oakville, Ontario), Billy Ryan (Milton, Mass.) and Chris Hahn (Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan). Maine improves to 11-18-3 overall and 7-15-3 in Hockey East play. Vermont, who snapped its five-game winning streak, falls to 13-12-7 overall and 12-8-5 in conference play.

Maine struck first at 14:40 of the first period. Maine's Andrew Sweetland (Bonavista, Newfoundland), who was behind the net, found Wes Clark skating down the center of the ice. He fed Clark who shot the puck past UVM goalie Joe Fallon and into the back of the net. For Clark, it was his team-leading 10th goal of the season. Travis Ramsey (Lakewood, Calif.) also assisted on the goal for the Black Bears.

Maine added to its lead early in the first period when Keenan Hopson (Prince George, British Columbia) fed Billy Ryan who was in front of UVM goalie Joe Fallon. Ryan beat Fallon for his fifth goal of the season. Hahn also assisted on the play for the Black Bears.

Chris Hahn (Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan) iced the game with his sixth goal of the season at 18:59 of the third period. He received the puck to the right of UVM goalie Joe Fallon and roofed the puck past him. Ryan and Hopson both assisted on the goal by Hahn.

Ben Bishop (Des Peres, Mo.) was outstanding for the Black Bears. He stopped all 30 shots that he faced as he improved to 11-18-3 on the season. It was his second shutout of the season. Joe Fallon made 30 saves for Vermont and falls to 11-10-5 on the campaign.

The Black Bears return to action on Friday, March 7 when they host UMass Lowell at 7 p.m. at Alfond Arena in Orono, Maine.
