Sweetland Named Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week

ORONO, Maine--University of Maine men's ice hockey freshman Andrew Sweetland (Bonavista, Newfoundland) was named the Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week on Monday, Feb. 25. Sweetland scored two goals and added two assists in Maine's sweep of UMass last weekend.

Sweetland assisted on Keif Orsini's (Montreal, Quebec) goal with 6:10 remaining in the third period on Saturday night which tied the game at 2-2 and allowed for Matt Duffy's game-winner with 3:47 remaining in the contest.

On Sunday, Sweetland scored a pair of goals and added an assist. Twice he gave Maine a two goal lead. Sweetland assisted on Clark's overtime game-winning goal on Sunday. He stole the puck from a UMass player and passed it to Clark who tipped it past UMass goalie Dan Meyers.

Sweetland has eight goals and seven assists for 15 point on the season. He ranks fourth on the team in scoring and leads all freshmen.

Sweetland and the Black Bears return to action on Friday, Feb. 29 when they travel to Vermont for a crucial two-game Hockey East series as they try to secure a berth on the Hockey East playoffs.
