Swimming and Diving Loses against Dartmouth

Orono, Maine - The University of Maine's men's and women's swimming and diving team lost to the Dartmouth Big Green on Saturday. The men's team lost 187 - 110, while the women were beat 174 - 126.

Keith Burgie led the divers with a second place finish in the one meter competition. Burgie scored 289.95 points, and in the three meter Burgie came in third with 272.40 points. Isaac Forbes placed fourth in the three meter competition. For the women, Megan Barrett led the Black Bears with a second place finish in the three meter competition, scoring 232.20, and Samantha Graham finished third in the one meter competition (247.13).

Colleen Miller fueled the women swimmers with two first place finishes. Miller took the 200 and 500 yard freestyle events, winning the 200 in 1:56.34 and the 500 in 5:09.33. Mimi Chovanec won the 1000 yard freestyle in 10:31.65, and Kiki O'Donnell followed right behind Chovanec, coming in second in 10:49.68. Adi Levy added a first place finish in the 100 yard backstroke (1:01.94). Megan McLean and Courtney Healey each added two second place finishes. McLean took second in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke and Healey came in second in both the 100 and 200 yard backstroke events. Kerstin Fenton placed second in the 200 yard IM (2:14.59) and Meag Fisher finished second in the 100 yard butterfly (1:00.39).

Cully Wakelin won two events for the men, taking the 100 and 200 yard freestyles. Wakelin won the 100 free in 48.50 and the 200 in 1:47.47. In his third event, Wakelin finished third in the 100 yard butterfly. Jamie Young finished second in the 100 and 200 yard backstrokes. In the 100 back, Young touched the wall at 57.57, and in the 200 back he finished in 2:05.63. Jeremy Bender finished third in the 500 yard (4:59.85) and the 1000 yard freestyle (10:09.57). Dustin Carrier took home third place in both breaststroke events, finishing the 100 yard in 1:06.11 and the 200 in 2:23.51. Kevin Staples added two third place finishes in the 100 yard backstroke (58.97) and the 100 yard freestyle (50.27). John Quinn finished third in both the 50 (22.85) and 200 (1:50.59) yard. Tyler Isherwood placed third in the 200 yard backstroke in a time of 2:09.22.
