Track and Field Competes at Wildcat Invitational
April 5, 2008 DURHAM, New Hampshire- The University of Maine men's and women's outdoor track teams competed in the non-team scoring Wildcat Invitational on Saturday. The event featured several teams from the Northeast, as well as non-affiliated runners. On the men's side, Charles Therriault (Amherst, Mass.) won the 1,000 meter run with a time of 33:05.90. Other winners included Miles Bartlett (Casco, Maine) in the 3,000 meter steeple chase with a time of 9:35.33, and the 4x400 meter relay team also took the top spot with a time of 3:24.55. Others with top performances included Khabir Edwards (Portland, Maine) who came in third in the 200 meter dash, Daniel Voner (Hallowell, Maine) who placed second in the 800 meter run, Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) who came in third in the 1,500 meter run, Max Ludwig (South Portland, Maine) who was runner-up in the 110 meter hurdles, and Matt Holman (Gardiner, Maine) and Jeff Ramos(Turner, Maine) who were second in the 400 meter hurdles and the high jump, respectively. On the women's side, Allyson Howatt (Fredericton, New Brunswick) took first in the 100 meter dash in a time of 11.93, which was just off the record of 11.81 run by Viktoriya Rybalko in 2003. Vicki Tolton (Smithers, British Columbia) was the other winner as she took the 400 meter dash in a time of 56.99. She was followed closely by teammate Lindsay Burlock (Caribou, Maine) who finished second with a time of 57.72. Other top performers for the Black Bears included Vanessa Letourneau (Fairfield, Maine) who placed second in the 800 meter run, Stephanie Jette (Lovell, Maine) who took third in the 1,500 meter run, Courtney Francis (Waltham, Mass.) who was third in the 100 meter hurdles and Tanya Simard (North Bay, Ontario) who was second in the triple jump. The 4x100 meter relay and 4x400 meter relay teams each placed second as well.
The track and field teams return to action next Saturday, April 12, when they travel back to take on New Hampshire for a duel meet at 12 p.m. |
