Women's Basketball Falls at Boston University

BOSTON, Mass. - The University of Maine women's basketball team dropped a 77-56 decision to Boston University on Tuesday at Case Gym in Boston, Mass. The Black Bears fell to 7-18 overall and 4-8 in America East, while the Terriers improved to 14-10 and 7-4 in the league.

Colleen Kilmurray led Maine with 11 points, including scoring seven in the second half. Amanda Tewksbury added 10 points, five rebounds and two assists. Kristin Baker chipped in nine points, including six in the second half, while Brittany Boser pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.

Cheri Raffo led BU with 18 points, while Christine Kinneary added 15.

Maine jumped out to a quick 4-2 lead two minutes into the contest on the strength of a layup each from Boser and Tewksbury. BU, though, countered by scoring the game's next eight points, including four from Amarac Umez-Eronini, to grab a 10-4 advantage with 12:29 remaining in the half. The Terriers led the rest of the half in building a 40-21 lead at halftime.

Tewksbury led Maine in scoring in the first 20 minutes with seven points, while Kilmurray and Kris Younan each added four points apiece. Tewksbury also pulled down a team-best four rebounds in the first half. The Black Bears shot a respectable 44 percent from the floor in the first half, but BU was able to build its halftime advantage by shooting 52 percent.

Maine out-scored the Terriers, 14-8, during the first eight minutes of the second half to pull within 13 at 48-35. Christina Mosher started the rally with back-to-back baskets to begin the half before fouling out. Tanna Ross added a three-pointer, while Tewksbury and Baker chipped in two points each during the run.

 

 

However, Maine could not draw closer the rest of the way as BU followed with a 15-7 run over the next five minutes to open up a 21-point advantage, 63-42.

Maine returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Vestal, N.Y., to face Binghamton at 2 p.m.
