Courtney Harnais to Join Women's Soccer Team this Fall

April 18, 2008

ORONO, Maine - University of Maine women's soccer head coach Scott Atherley announced on Friday that Courtney Harnais has committed to continue her career at the school beginning in the fall of 2008.

A 5-4 midfielder/defender from Braintree, Mass., Harnais was a member of the perennial power Cape Cod Lady Crusaders club team, and also helped lead the squad to the 2007 U.S. Club National Championship. As a member of the Crusaders, Harnais was a two-time Super-Y ODP National Team selection, and was most recently named to the 1989/1990 squad in January. She also attended Notre Dame Academy in Hingham, Mass., where she was a four-year letterwinner and captain of the 2007 team in soccer. Harnais also took part in the Massachusetts ODP program in 2005 and 2007.

"Courtney is an intense competitor," Atherley said. "She hates to lose, and her best qualities come out in big games. She is great in one-on-one situations both in attack and defense. She is versatile, and can help us in a number of positions. She comes from a program that has enjoyed national success and is accustomed to winning. Her versatility and intensity will make our team better."

Harnais joins Ashley Drenth, Alexandra Krous, Kaitlyn MacIsaac, Carolyne Nellis and Sady Tobin as the six newcomers to join the 2008 Black Bear team.
