Former University of Maine standout Lynn (Hearty) Coutts is entering her first season as a pitching consultant on the Black Bear staff.
"Adding Lynn to the staff will be a tremendous benefit to the program," Maine head coach Stacey Sullivan said.
As a player, Coutts was a standout for the Black Bears in the pitching circle. In 1987, she was named an NCAA Northeast All-American, the first recognition of its kind for a Maine softball player. In 1987, she was also named an ECAC All-Star as well as an All-New England honoree.
In 1988, Coutts began her six-year stint as a Maine assistant softball coach with then-head coach Janet Anderson. During her time in Orono, Coutts instructed the pitching staff and was instrumental in the development of Black Bear standouts, Deb Smith (1991-94) and Cindy Harrington (1992-95). Both Smith and Harrington reside at the top of Maine's career pitching records list.
Presently, Lynn and her husband Mike (former Maine baseball player and coach) own the Frozen Ropes Training Center in Portland, Maine. At Frozen Ropes, Coutts serves as the primary softball instructor while working with all age groups in every aspect of the game.
Coutts and her husband reside in Scarborough, and have two kids, Jack and Maggie.
