Softball Falls to Hawai'i Pacific

KANEOHE, Hawai'i- The University of Maine softball team dropped a tough decision to Hawai'i Pacific University on Tuesday by the score of 7-1. With the loss, Maine fell to 0-17 on the season while Hawai'i Pacific improved to 13-0. The Black Bears were led by Terren Hall (Bucksport, Maine) who went 1-for-3 with a homerun. Laine Shikuma (Hilo, Hawai`i) led Hawai'i Pacific with two RBI. The Black Bears fell behind early, surrendering three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Maine cut the lead to just two runs when Hall hit a solo homerun in the top of the fourth, but Hawai'i Pacific scored two more in the bottom of the inning to increase the lead to four. Hawai'i Pacific added a run in the fifth and the sixth for the final margin of victory. Ashley Waters (Amesbury, Mass.) and Whitney Spangler (Canton, Ohio) each had two hits for the Black Bears. Cayleigh Montano (La Cruces, N.M.) pitched the complete game, giving up only two earned runs while striking out three. Maine returns to action on Wednesday, March 12, at 4 p.m. (HT) to battle Texas Tech before playing Hawai'i at 6 p.m. (HT).
