Women's Track and Field Finishes Second at UMaine Open

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's track and field team finished second in the UMaine Open on Saturday. They competed against the College of Holy Cross. Holy Cross won the invitational.

Tanya Simard won both the long jump and triple jump events with leaps of 5.23m and 10.98m, respectively. Vicki Tolton and Lindsay Burlock finished 1-2 in the 400m dash with times of 58.06 and 58.27 seconds, respectively. Allyson Howatt won the 55m dash with a time of 7.27 seconds. Vanessa Letourneau won the 800m run with a time of 2:19.76 seconds to round out the winners. Allyson Thomas and Heather Jackson finished 2-3 in the pole vault. Meagan Burke, Micralyn Wiechman and Rebecca Even finished 2-4 in the shot put. Brenna Walsh, Lauren LaRoche, and Erin Lawler finished 2-4 in the one mile run. Stephanie Jette finished second in the 1000m run with a time of 3:04.68 minutes. Laura Brustolon finished second in the 3000m run with a time of 10:38.02 minutes. The Maine women's 4x400 and 4x880 teams both won.

The Black Bears return to action on Feb. 9 for the Valentines Invitational in Boston, Mass.
