Track and Field Competes at Wildcat Invitational II

DURHAM, New Hampshire- The University of Maine men's and women's track teams competed in the non-team scoring Wildcat Invitational II on Saturday. The event featured several teams from the Northeast, as well as nonaffiliated runners.

On the men's side, Matt Holman (Gardiner, Maine) won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 54.26, which was just 0.04 off the Maine record set by Joel Evans in 2003. Other winners included Miles Bartlett (Casco, Maine) in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:10.24 and the 4x800 meter relay team in the time of 8:03.69.

The other top performances included Max Ludwig (South Portland, Maine) taking second in the 110 meter hurdles, Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) placing second in the 800 meter run, Matt Berube taking third in the pole vault and Thomas Williams (Brunswick, Maine) who took third in the triple jump.

On the women's side, Rebecca Even (Stoneham, Mass.) took first in the javelin throw with a distance of 104-04. Vicki Tolton (Smithers, British Columbia) won the 400 meter dash in a time of 56.17, and was followed closely by teammate Lindsay Burlock (Caribou, Maine) who took second. Vanessa Letourneau (Fairfield, Maine) won the 800 meter run in a time of 2:15.78 and the 4x400 meter relay and 4x800 meter relay teams both won with times of 4:01.36 and 9:51.80, respectively.

Other top performers included Micralyn Wiechman (Buxton, Maine), who took third in the hammer throw, Allyson Thomas (Auburn, Maine) who took third in the pole vault, Tanya Simard (North Bay, Ontario) was second in the triple jump and third in the long jump, Maegan Burke (Kennebunk, Maine) was second in the shot put, Jennifer Pierpont (Saco, Maine) who was the runner-up in the 100 meter dash and Chelsea Leeman (Brunswick, Maine) who was third in the 5,000 meter run.

 

 

At the 2008 Louisiana State University Tiger Outdoor Invitational, Allyson Howatt (Fredericton, New Brunswick) came in ninth in the 100 meter dash and 11th in the 200 meter dash. Skip Edwards (Portland, Maine) placed 11th in the 400 meter dash and 15th in the 200 meter dash.

The track and field teams return to action next Saturday, April 19, when they travel to Holy Cross for a meet at 11 a.m. -U-M-
