Track and Field Competes at Holy Cross Quad Meet
April 20, 2008 WORCESTER, Massachusetts- The University of Maine men's and women's track teams finished third and second, respectively, at the Holy Cross College Quad Meet on Saturday in Worcester, Mass. The women's team won seven events while the men's team took five events. On the women's side, winners included Allyson Howatt (Fredericton, New Brunswick) who won the 100 meter dash in a time of 12.04. Vicki Tolton (Smither, British Columbia) and Lindsay Burlock (Caribou, Maine) had a 1-2 finish in the 400 meter run with times of 56.31 and 56.86, respectively. Vanessa Letourneau (Fairfield, Maine) took the 800 meter run in a time of 2:16.55. Tanya Simard (North Bay, Ontario) won the triple jump with s distance of 37-05.25, while also taking second in the long jump. Maegan Burke (Kennebunk, Maine) won the shot put with a distance of 42-04 while Rebecca Even (Stoneham, Mass.) took the hammer throw with a distance of 154-01. Even also took third in the shot put. The 4x400 meter relay team won in a time of 3:48.65, which qualified the team for the ECAC Championships. Other top performers included Lauren LaRoche (Auburn, Maine) and Stephanie Jette (Lovell, Maine), who came in second and third, respectively, in the 1,500 meter run, Chelsea Leeman (Brunswick, Maine) who came in third in the 5,000 meter run, Courtney Francis (Waltham, Mass.) who came in third in the 100 meter hurdles, Laura Brustolon (Mystic, Conn.) who placed second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, the 4x100 meter relay team that placed second, Allyson Thomas (Auburn, Maine) and Heather Jackson (Old Town, Maine), who were second and third, respectively, in the pole vault, Katie Donnelly (Westbrook, Maine) who took third in the triple jump and Micralyn Wiechman (Buxton, Maine) who took runner-up honors in the discus throw.
On the men's side, winners included Matthew Holman (Gardiner, Maine) who took the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 55.93, Jeff Ramos (Turner, Maine) took the high jump with a height of 6-04, Thomas Williams (Brunswick, Maine) leapt 22-05 to win the long jump,Toby Poirier (Lewiston, Maine) who won the javelin throw with a distance of 193-04 and Herbert Ryan who won the discus with a throw of 145-08. Other top performers included Andrew King who took runner-up honors in the 100 meter and 200 meter dash, Skip Edwards (Portland, Maine) who took second in the 400 meter run, Dan Voner (Hallowell, Maine) who took secodn in the 800 meter run, Miles Bartlett (Casco, Maine) and Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) who took second and third, respectively, in the 1,500 meter run, the 4x400 meter relay team took finished second and Richard Cannon (Sanford, Maine) and Matt Berube who finished second and third, respectively, in the pole vault. The teams return to action on Thursday, April 24, when some team members travel to the Penn Relays, while others will travel to New Hampshire on Saturday, April 26. |
