MILWAUKEE - Members of the Marquette men's and women' track and field teams turned in more fine performances Saturday in the final day of competition at the Missouri Relays, as the Golden Eagles produced numerous event winners and qualifying marks.

"We had a lot of good performances," said head coach Bert Rogers. "It was quite a bit little cooler and more breezy, so we had some other things to deal with in terms of just the weather conditions. But everyone stepped up, and we competed hard. As the weather continues to improve we'll continue to turn in better performances."

Tyler O'Brien captured the men's 400 meters with a time of 49.99, adding to the freshman's victory Friday in the 200 meters.

Other winners included Jeff Kluge in the discus with a throw of 46.94m (154-00); Erynn James took first in the women's elite division of the high jump with a mark of 1.75m (5-08.75), matching her previous NCAA regional qualifying mark and personal best; and Carrie Schmid won the pole vault at 3.70m (12-01.50).

Rachel Thiel improved her regional qualifying mark with a toss of 14.76m (48-05.25), finishing fifth in a very strong women's elite division, while in the men's university division Eric Matuszewski placed second with a throw of 15.73m (51-07.25).

Michael O'Brien hit a BIG EAST qualifying standard with his time of 53.55 in the 400 meter hurdles elite division. Sharon Fritz finished second in the women's open division of the triple jump with a mark of 11.14m (36-06.75), and both Mark Kopecki and Peter Bolgert produced excellent times in the men's elite 1,500 meters at 3:57.63 and 3:59.97, respectively.

The foursome of Bolgert, Kopecki, Johnny Wright, and Eric Meissner finished third in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 7:50.15.

Most of the Golden Eagles' squad will travel to West Lafayette, Ind. to compete in the Mike Poehlein Invitational hosted by Purdue, while some of MU's distance runners will head to the Stanford Invitational.
