MU-UofL Box Score
Milwaukee - The Marquette University men's soccer team (1-6-1, 0-4-0 BIG EAST) continued its 2007 BIG EAST campaign with a 2-0 loss to Louisville (5-3-0, 2-1-0 BIG EAST) Friday evening at Valley Fields. The Golden Eagles continue their search for the team's first league victory of the season this Sunday when the squad welcomes Cincinnati to town at 1 p.m. Three of the team's four conference setbacks have come by just one goal. Both squads struggled to generate much offensively in the first half. The Cardinals finished with a 6-2 advantage in the opening frame in shot attempts, including a blast from UofL freshman Kenney Walker, who hit the near post following a corner kick. The tempo of the match continued well into the second half until Louisville's Frank Jonke was able to beat MU netminder Steve Purdy. The freshman goalkeeper finished with six saves on the night, but was unable to stop the point-blank attempt. The Cardinals added a second tally at the 85:51 mark, converting on a counter attack after the Golden Eagles had pushed everyone forward in an attempt to net the equalizer. "I was a frustrating game," head coach Louis Bennett said. "Louisville does a good job of smothering you offensively and taking advantage of the counter attack. We tried to mirror them in the first half and did a good job, but we didn't play well in the second half."
