Marquette Opens Two-Game Road Tilt at No. 23/24 Syracuse Sunday

The Marquette women's basketball team opens a two-game road tilt Sunday at No. 23/24 Syracuse at 1 p.m. ET. The game in the Carrier Dome will be broadcast live on ESPNU with Dave Ryan and Brooke Wiesbrod calling the action. The national broadcast on ESPNU is apart of "February Frenzy" that will feature 16 teams in eight games across the nation on ESPN channels. The Golden Eagles (13-9, 5-4) are coming off a come-from-behind win over Cincinnati, 72-65, on Feb. 5. Marquette trailed by as many 19 points before its second half rally to earn the win. Freshman Angel Robinson scored a game-high and collegiate best 20 points in the victory while also breaking the freshman steals record previously held by teammate Krystal Ellis. The surprise out of the BIG EAST This season, the Orange (17-4, 5-3) were picked to finish 13th in the conference and currently stand in fifth place with a 5-3 BIG EAST mark. Syracuse enters its game with Marquette coming off a 78-71 loss at Georgetown. Syracuse, who is averaging 73.9 ppg, has four players in double figures with Chandrea Jones averaging a team-best 16.3 ppg. Nicole Michael follows with 13.2 ppg, Fantasia Goodwin has added 12.9 ppg and leads the team with 9.5 rpg. Erica Morrow rounds out the quartet with 11.4 ppg. The Orange's rebounding effort ranks second in the league with 45.6 rpg. Four SU players are averaging five or more rebounds per game. Syracuse is 9-1 in the Carrier Dome this season. Its lone loss was to No. 1 Connecticut, 65-59, on Jan. 15. The Golden Eagles will be supporting Syracuse's "Think Pink" efforts Sunday. Marquette will wear pink shooting shirts and have pink shoelaces among other pink accessories and accents. Over 600 schools nationwide will assist the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) "Think Pink" initiative assisting in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. Sometime between Feb. 6 (National Girls and Women in Sports Day) and Feb. 17 (the end of the WBCA's "Think Pink" week), BIG EAST institutions will be involving its women's basketball programs, along with its fans to support the fight against breast cancer.
