Golden Eagles Head to Florida for Three Spring Matches
April 18, 2008
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's soccer team will wrap-up its spring season in the "Sunshine State" in Boca Raton, Fla., on Saturday, April 19. Marquette will play FAU at 9:45 a.m. ET, 2007 NCAA Tournament participant Miami at 12:15 p.m. ET, and Florida Gulf Coast at 1:30 p.m. ET. Marquette is 4-1-2 on the spring season defeating Loyola (2-0), Green Bay (5-0), Duke (3-1) and most recently Wisconsin (1-0), and tying UW-Milwaukee and UNC-Greensboro, 1-1. Entering their final weekend of spring play, eight different Golden Eagles have scored goals. Also this weekend, the Golden Eagles will welcome back goalkeeper Natalie Kulla who participated in the U-20 United States National Team camp at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. "The weekend will be another good test for our squad. We are playing good teams and the weather adjustments will test us," said head coach Markus Roeders. "Overall, the team has responded very well to the training and games over the past few weeks and months, and we hope to play our best soccer at the end. We know the University of Miami and the success they have enjoyed in the ACC this past year. Florida Atlantic and Florida Gulf Coast are new opponents, but they will enjoy the advantage of playing/training in the warm weather. Our squad is definitely eager to finish on a high note and play good soccer." Marquette will first play FAU of the Sun Belt Conference who finished the 2007 season 9-8-2 overall. FAU bowed out to eventual Sun Belt Tournament Champion Denver in a shootout, 4-1, in the quarterfinals of the tournament. Next for the Golden Eagles will be Miami who finished fifth in the ACC and made a run to the NCAA Tournament last fall. The Hurricanes dropped to Florida in the first round and finished the season 9-7-5. The Golden Eagles and the Hurricanes last met during the 2005 season on neutral turf where the two teams tied, 1-1, in double overtime.
Capping the day will be a match with Florida Gulf Coast who went 11-7-0 overall but was not eligible for post-season play during the NCAA reclassifying period. |
