SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Marshall University men's golf team concluded the 54-hole UTSA Intercollegiate, its first event of the spring season, in a tie for 13th place with a score of 908 (311-298-299) at the par-71, 6,765-yard Oak Hills Country Club.

Thundering Herd sophomore Christian Brand and junior Nathan Kinker paced Marshall with scores of 224, which put them in a tie for 33rd place. Brand (75-74-75) failed to record a round at or under par for the first time since a rainy Kepler Intercollegiate last April in Columbus.

Kinker (78-73-73) finished the tournament with consecutive rounds of 73, the best score of any MU player at the event.

Mississippi State (864) claimed the team title with the Bulldogs' Noah Goldman taking home medalist honors by just one stroke with a score of 212. A pair of Big 12 schools finished behind MSU, Texas Tech (873) and Oklahoma (874).

The Red Raiders' Garrett Merrell, the Sooners' Phillip Bryan and Wichita State's Ryan Spears all tied for second place with a 213.

Marshall will resume tournament play next week at the Wexford Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C., on Feb. 25-26.
