April 11, 2008
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Marshall University men's golf team will compete in its final regular season event in advance of the Conference USA Championship with the 39th annual Robert Kepler Intercollegiate, hosted by Ohio State, on Saturday and Sunday at OSU's Scarlet Course. The 54-hole event at the par-71, 7,455-yard Scarlet Course begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday (36 holes) followed by the final round on Sunday with tee times starting at 8:30 a.m. Thundering Herd head coach Joe Feaganes' lineup this weekend will consist of seniors Trent Schambach and Jonathan Pepe, junior Nathan Kinker and sophomores Josh Boswell and Phil DiLorenzo. Feaganes will be without the services of No. 1 golfer Christian Brand, who withdrew from last weekend's Marshall Invitational due to injury. Boswell paced the Herd at the Marshall Invitational, placing in a career-best tie for fifth. He fired a personal-best 3-under 68 in the first round and followed it up with a 72 in the weather-shortened event. The 15-team field is comprised of Colorado, Furman, Iowa, Kent State, Louisville, Marshall, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, SMU, UNC Wilmington and Wisconsin. The U of L Cardinals return to defend their 2007 Kepler Intercollegiate title after firing a 591 in only two rounds last year (weather). Michigan State's Matt Harmon claimed medalist honors (142) a year ago at the tournament. The host Buckeyes have won the event a record 23 times. Live scoring of the Kepler Intercollegiate is available at www.golfstat.com.
