DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Marshall University men's soccer team will begin its 2008 season playing in the Davidson Invitational where it will open against the College of Charleston Friday, Aug. 29 at 5:00 p.m.

The Thundering Herd will then play host Davidson Sunday Aug. 31 at 1:00 p.m.

During the preseason, Marshall went 2-1 claiming victories over Penn State, 1-0 and VMI, 4-2. The Herd's loss came against Rio Grande, 0-1.

This year men's soccer team is led by a senior class of nine that includes returning leading scorer Kolby LaCrone (Zanesville, Ohio) who scored two goals during the preseason. LaCrone finished last season with seven goals.

Also returning for the Herd is sophomore Sammy Boateng (Accura, Ghana) who was named to the 2007 Conference USA All-Freshman team.

The match against College of Charleston marks the first time the two teams have ever met. Sunday's game against Davidson will be mark the 21st meeting between the squads. The Wildcats lead the series 12-7-1.
