April 16, 2008
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Former Marshall University women's basketball player Amy Reed has accepted the head coaching position at the Rochester Institute of Technology. "I am very proud of Amy. She is on the fast track toward becoming a successful head coach," said Marshall head coach Royce Chadwick, who coached Reed in her final two years with the Thundering Herd. "She has all the intangibles to make their program a success. She is carrying the Marshall flag proudly." Reed, who was a four-year starter with the Thundering Herd from 1999-03, took the position at R.I.T. after spending the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at Gettysburg College. While at Gettysburg, Reed worked on player skill development, recruiting, team travel, preseason workouts, scouting, game management and fundraising. She was also the strength and conditioning coordinator. Prior to Gettysburg, Reed taught physical education at the elementary level and coached junior high women's basketball and varsity softball in Oklahoma. In her time at Marshall, Reed left her mark on the record book, finishing her career as the No. 6 shot blocker in program history with 66. She was also a tenacious rebounder, grabbing 525 boards, the 18th highest total for Marshall. Reed was solid on the offensive end, connecting on 338 field goals, good for another top-20 mark in the MU record book. For her efforts, she was named the 2003 Offensive Player of the Year and later received the Dorothy Hicks Scholarship.
Reed graduated with a bachelor's degree in physical education from Marshall in 2003 before earning a master's degree in athletic administration in 2007.
