HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University's Head Women's Soccer Coach Chris Kane announced Friday that Coach Kevin Long has accepted the team's assistant coaching position. "We are fortunate to have someone like Kevin joining our staff," Coach Kane said. "He will represent the program and university very well." Long most recently served as head coach at Rider University from 2003-2008. He left Rider with a five-year record of 37-48-12, including a 5-11-3 2007 finish. Long led the Broncs to 11 wins and the four-team Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference playoffs in 2003. The following year the Broncs won a Rider-record 12 game and advanced to the 2004 MAAC Championship Game. Long departed as the winningest coach in the history of the women's soccer program at Rider. "I am very excited about the new position," Long stated. "The program's recruiting classes have improved over the years and I hope to be a good part of the good change happening at Marshall." Long's resume is impressive with previous coaching experiences at North Carolina State as an assistant women's coach (2001-2003) and as Randolph-Macon's Head Coach from 1997-2001. Long will continue as an Olympic Development Program Region I Senior Staff member where he coaches and trains teams to compete at the National Level. In March, Long took a 17-18 year-old elite women's squad to Russia to compete against teams from Poland, Russia, and Ukraine. Long's team beat Russia twice and won its bracket to advance to the semifinal round where the team fell to the eventual champion. Long's team was the second youngest squad in the championship's history to win its bracket. "We are happy Kevin and his family will be joining Marshall's family," Coach Kane added. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Education from George Mason University (1993) and a Master of Arts in Human Services Administration in 2007 from Rider. Long with wife, Shelly, have three daughters, Austyn, Alyssa and Abigail.
