HOUSTON - The Thundering Herd swimming and diving team sits in fifth-place with 116 points after day two of competition at the Conference USA Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Houston.

The Herd put together solid performances in the morning session as several athletes qualified for finals in their events. Sophomore Jenny Johnnson set a lifetime best in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:07.36. Senior Lauren Goodwin also qualified for the night session with a time of 2:09.58 in the 200 Individual Medley as did sophomore sprinter Briana Burns with a lifetime best time of 24.67.

Among the other Herd swimmers to set lifetime bests were Erin Kennedy who swam a 25.29 in the 50 free, Kyla Jungclaus who posted a 24.90 in the 50 free and Kelsie Eberly who knocked a remarkable two and half seconds off of her previous best in the 200 IM with a time 2:12.43.

Johnnson shined once again in the night session as the Swedish native dropped another three seconds off her lifetime best in the 500 with a time of 5:04.48. Goodwin moved up one spot in the finals to finish 12th in the finals of the 200 IM with a time 2:08.80. Burns looked to be faster than her preliminary time in the 50 free when a bad turn cost her.

Marshall closed the night out strong with a school record performance in the 400 Medley Relay. Kennedy, Michaela Sceli, Kayla Turswell and Jungclaus combined to swim a 3:52.01 and smash the previous Marshall best.

"Jenny dropped three seconds off of her lifetime best that she set earlier in the dad and that's remarkable," Marshall head coach Leonard Kraus said. "I think she's really coming into her own in this meet and I'm looking for exciting swims out of her as the seek goes on.

"It was great to close out the day with that relay. Hopefully, it will really lift our spirits heading into tomorrow."
