WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Marshall University's No. 62 nationally-ranked women's tennis team fell, 7-0, against its seventh-ranked foe of the season the No. 25 William and Mary squad, Friday evening at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center/Busch Courts. The Thundering Herd dropped to 12-5 overall while the Tribe advanced to 10-8 so far this season. William and Mary continued its all-time series advantage over Marshall, 2-0. "It was good to finally play a match outdoors tonight," Marshall's head coach John Mercer said. "We hope to be ready for another great match tomorrow." The 11th-ranked duo of Megan Moulton-Levy and Katarina Zoricic took an 8-2 decision against Thaddea Lock (Bristol, England) and Isabell Raich (Klaus, Austria) at the number one position. Yulia Kashelkina (Moscow, Russia) and Jessica Keener (Reston, Va.) fell to Ragini Acharya and Klaudyna Kasztelaniec, 8-5, at the number two slot to take the doubles point. The Herd's pair of Karolina Soor (Lindesberg, Sweden) and Jeanne Schwartz (West Palm Beach, Fla.) defeated Lauren Sabacinski and Carmen Pop, 8-1, at the number three mark to stop the Tribe's doubles sweep. Going into singles competition, William and Mary took a 1-0 lead over Marshall. Moulton-Levy (10th) defeated Schwartz, 6-1, 6-0, at the number one. Playing the number two, Soor was defeated by No. 118 Zoricic, 6-1, 6-0. The No. 121 Acharya took a 6-0, 6-0 advantage over Lock at the number three. Raich fell to 113th-ranked Kasztelaniec, 6-0, 6-2, at the number four position. Keener retired in the second set to fall to Sabacinski, 6-7, 2-1 at the five. To finish the Tribe victory, Pop defeated Kashelkina, 6-4, 6-3, at the number six slot. The Herd stands 2-5 against ranked opponents thus far this season. Marshall will continue its seven-match road trip at 1-2 with first serve set for 1 p.m. against the University of Pennsylvania (4-5), Saturday, at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center/Busch Courts. Penn holds a 1-0 all-time series advantage over Marshall with a 5-2 victory in 2007. In the latest rankings, Penn's Ekaterina Kosminskaya stands as the 103rd-ranked singles player while the Quackers duo of Julia Koulbitskaya and Kosminskaya holds the 24th-ranked doubles slot.
