Volleyball Finishes Spring Season On High Note
April 26, 2008
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Marshall University volleyball team rounded its spring schedule at the Bearcat Invitational Saturday at the University of Cincinnati. The Thundering Herd finished its spring season with the best overall record (7-1) at the day-long tournament. Marshall split its games with Cleveland State in the first match of the day before beating Northwestern, Youngstown State and Wright State 2-0. "This was a great way to finish our spring season," head coach Mitch Jacobs said. "We played extremely hard all day." The Herd came from behind in its game two victory against Cleveland State, a 2007 NCAA tournament team that returned its entire starting lineup. Marshall continued its surge and posted a 25-13 win in game one against Northwestern before outlasting the Wildcats 25-23 in game two. "The morning really set the tone for the rest of the day," Jacobs added. "We were able to continue our momentum through to the afternoon. We were able to come back against Youngstown State and we controlled our game against Wright State, a team that we will play in the fall."
Marshall will open its fall season August 29 at the Cincinnati Tournament against Tennessee Tech. The Herd will also square off against Wright State and Cincinnati in its opening weekend of action.
