Darrick Brown takes second in the high jump and third in the long jump

Baton Rouge, LA - Second place efforts by Darrick Brown in the high jump and the women's distance medley led McNeese State during the running of the LSU Bayou Bengals indoor track and field meet on Friday. Brown went 6-8 3/4 to finish second in the men's high jump and the foursome of Amy Guinn, Sara-Jayne Boyce, Christi McRae and Tinette Burger ran second in the women's distance medley with a clocking of 12:56.68. Brown also had a third place finish in the long jump with a leap of 24-2 1/2 and he was the school's leading scorer in the meet. Other top five finishes for the men had John Jamail with a third in the shot put at 53-2 1/2 and a third in the weight throw at 54-5 1/4, a fourth by Freddie Hannie in the weight at 52-8 3/4 and a fifth by Jonathan Walker in the triple jump with a leap of 42-7. For the Cowgirls, the only other top five finish had Lindsay Brooks going 5-4 1/2 for third in the high jump and DeAnn Washington placing fifth in the shot put at 41-5 1/4. Pole vaulter Jimmie Heath who was one of the favorites in that event, passed until the bar got to 16-1 and then missed on three straight attempts. Other athletes placing for the Cowboys had Michael Washington finishing seventh in the 400 meters with a 51.42 and Alasdair Russell taking eighth place in the one mile run at 4:34.77 and Kenneth Pierce finishing 10th at 4:35.17. Also in the top 10 for the Cowgirls were Julie Buller with a 10-10 effort for sixth place in the pole vault, Amy Aguillard with 10-4 in the vault for seventh place and McRae running a 25.93 in the 200 for seventh place. The only first place anyone from McNeese claimed in the meet was produced by assistant coach Erik Whitsitt who participated unattached in the shot put and won that event and remained undefeated on the season with a 58-3 effort. Jon Fagan, another Cowboy assistant coach, finished third in the 60 meter hurdles at 8.21 running unattached. |
